GALICIA “OLD BOYS” (Spain)

GALICIA OLD BOYS
GOLDEN OLDIES MADEIRA
Rugby began to be played in la Coruña in the year 1976, when the
“Club de rugby Arquitectura Técnica” was created. One of its
founders was Maxi Casares, who at 63 years old, is the actual
captain of our veterans team that is to participate in the Golden
Oldies in Madeira, who also set up the Galician Rugby Federation.
This year is the 25th anniversary of federated rugby in Galicia.
There are several veteran tournaments held during the year in
Galicia. The International Veteran´s Tournament of La Coruña,
Veteran´s Tournament of Ferrol, of Lugo and several exchange games
played with Veteran teams from Portugal such as C.R. da Lousá, CDU
Porto or Arcos.
The idea of participating in the Golden Oldies in Madeira, came from
the oldest Veteran clubs in Galicia, CRAT and Ferrol. The team is
open to all veteran players in Galicia and has decided to
participate under under the name of “Galicia Old Boys”, making it a
genuine Representative side of veterans from Galicia in its 25th
Anniversary.
Greetings to all other participants from Galicia and many thanks to
CDUP for their invitation to take part in this event. We hope to
share with you all our traditional “Queimada Galega” (the ceremony
to drink “Firewater”, a wine spirit).
Best regards,
