RVL -R. Vet. Lisboa (Portugal)

R.V.L. was founded in 1988, with legal statutes and elected directors and being member of F.P.R, the Portuguese Rugby Union.

The founders, former adversaries mainly coming from three of the most important Clubs of Lisbon, appeared to help the development and promotion of Rugby and began with 40 members (11 from Benfica and 12 either from GD Direito, or from Belenenses, who invited 1 player from Técnico, another from CDUL and 1 from Loulé – past player on Benfica and Direito - and 2 from Évora – old players of G. D. Direito).

One year after, we invited more 40 players to become members, representing the above mentioned Clubs, but with different proportions, and some former players from Agronomia and Cascais, the other missing clubs from Lisbon area. As we travelled a lot, we added to this group 1 international player from each of 4 countries: Spain, France, Italy and Argentina.

The singularity of this new Club was our decision on having, as member cards, a game jersey instead, with our number member printed on the back , also deciding that each one of those shirts only could be used forever by each owner, and NEVER possessed by anybody else.

Adding to the pleasure of playing, the satisfaction of travelling, we participated during 5 following years on Marbella Golden Oldies Tournament, beyond several presences on other cities in Spain, as Madrid, Benidorm, Sevilla or Caceres.

We played in France, Argentina, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Bermudas and Russia and in lots of Portuguese pitches, against fellow country-men or receiving teams from abroad, chiefly from England, Nederland’s, Canada, Spain, France and Argentina.

R.V.L. will play at Madeira by the first time.
